People uprooted from Salmon Bay (7) View on map

Salmon Bay (Brem Bay), in Toba Inlet, was the site of the Klahoose First Nation seasonal village of Kw’íkw’tichenam until the late 1920s. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, logging operations in the area included Burns & Jackson Logging Company, headquartered in Wilson Creek, and E&G Logging Company. The Burns & Jackson camp included bunkhouses for single men and housing for families.

About fifty workers lived at the camp before the arrival of Japanese Canadians. Most Japanese Canadians worked on road crews clearing land for logging roads and lived about two and a half miles up above from where the logging camp was (Tla’amin Nation; Freddie Louie).

This person will be included on the monument panels in a future addition.
