People uprooted from Sooke Lake (1) View on map

Sooke Lake is located in the Capital Regional District. The lake became the primary water reservoir for the Greater Victoria area after the construction of Sooke Lake dam in 1915. Into the 1920s and 1930s, there were several sawmill operations nearby, including the Cameron Lumber Company Ltd. and Kapoor Lumber Company. These companies were the primary employers for Japanese Canadians in the area.
