People uprooted from Steelhead (2) View on map

Steelhead, in the District of Mission, was established between 1900 and 1910 by newsmen who worked in Vancouver and only went home on the weekends. Their families maintained permanent residence in Steelhead and the community grew. Many farmers in the District of Mission travelled to Steelhead for seasonal logging. Most of the permanent residents, including many Japanese Canadians, had small-scale mills. Kahei Kamimura ran a logging camp in the Steelhead area.
