ヘイスポートから追放された (1) 地図上を表示

以下の文章は、今後サイト更新時に日本語に翻訳される予定です。

Haysport was established by non-Indigenous settlers as a townsite in 1910. Its creation was stimulated by the building of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (GTP) to Prince Rupert, which finished in 1914; the name Haysport derives from the president of the GTP, Charles Hays. In 1913, a freezer and cold storage plant was built by the Maritime Fisheries Limited. It became a salmon cannery in 1919.

Ethnically-segregated bunkhouses for cannery workers were spaced in a row down-river from the cannery. In the 1930s, a change to the fishing boundary made the cannery less profitable, and it closed in 1938; its equipment and buildings were transferred to the Carlisle Cannery. Haysport was eventually abandoned.
