O’Brien Bay (also O’Brian Bay), on the north side of Kinnaird Island, served as a site for floating logging camp operations from the mid-1920s to the 1940s. Many Japanese Canadians were employed by the O’Brien Logging Company, Highland Logging (Hiland), and Jikemura Logging Company. Japanese Canadians often worked seasonally and travelled to O’Brien Bay from Vancouver Island and the Vancouver area. Camps in this area were very isolated and it was common for them to be segregated. One of the company float houses had a Japanese bath. By 1945 the O’Brien Bay camp was relocated.
